I recently learned that paper from milk cartons is really suitable as a base to make paper yourself. It only needs some prepping.
Dus vandaag een grote pan met een sopje op het vuur en melkpakken geweekt. Daarna pellen de plastic lagen er zo af. Soms had ik geluk en ging het in één lange strip.
Nog een tip, niet teveel in een keer in de pan, dan brand het aan (vraag maar niet hoe ik daar achter kwam *lol*)
That news resulted in a milk carton soaking session. After that I peeled of the coating easily, sometimes I was lucky and peeled in one strip.
A practical tip, don't overfill the soaking pan, you will end up with burned paper (don't ask *lol*)

Als het papier droog is gaat het in een doos, wachten op de volgende zomer. Ik heb de hele winter tijd om een voorraad aan te leggen :)
When the paper is dry I will stock it in a box, waiting for next summer. I've the whole winter to make a large pile :)

mmmmm a big pot of stewing milk carton paper....that is the day your darling husband comes home and says...ohhh honey what is for dinner and lifts the lid to look inside the pot and YYIKES....really tasty MILK CARTON

well, luckily he's the cook in the house so he knows not to try the stews i make, it's mostly pastE (not to be confused with pastA) or some other tasty crafty meal brewing when i'm in the kitchen...
this fascinates me Dymphie, I think our cartons here might be too waxy...

ReplyDeletethat's why you have to clean the cartons and soak them in boiling (soapy) water for at least half an hour, the coating peels away easily after that. There's a link in the post to an english language pdf, it might be of some help to you
das een leuk gezicht, die uitgevouwen melkpakken aan de waslijn! Ik heb ook wel eens melkpakken uitgewassen, maar dat was om er portemonneetjes van te maken,heel iets anders dus..Mooi om te zien wat je allemaal met (gebruikt) papier kunt doen!

here's an image (they're all basically the same overhere, I didn't use the ones with peeking 'windows' though). Cardboard like paper is sandwiched between two waxy layers.
I teared the carton open and in half and soaked it in boiling soapy water for about 3/4 hour, than rinsed and peeled.
In the blogpost is a link to an english language pdf, found on an Australian website that might be helpful.
p.s. before soaking the cartons are thoroughly cleaned :D
ReplyDeleteIk lees dit bericht met verbazing :) Je maakt ons nieuwsgierig, wat een leuk projectje! Nog veel melk drinken dus tot volgend voorjaar, de sterke botten zijn mooi meegenomen!
ReplyDeletemeid wat ben jij toch veelzijdig en een echte uitvinder/probeerder, geweldig hoe je op die ideen komt, ik ben al erg benieuwd naar hoe/ wat het worden gaat uiteindelijk,
