kleuren vinden
finding colors

Still working in my first painting class, this is assignment 6. Still no luck in using more muted colours... I want to learn all about color-use to be able to decorate the paper i want to make my bookcovers with. In the meantime I started the course in color-use, so maybe I will tackle the colors in the end!

kleuren vinden
finding colors

Back to painting lessons, I have to work hard because I registrated for the next class by Julie Prichard and Chris Cozen (she wrote 'Altered Surfaces' a great book for acrylic paint lovers).
This time the assignment was to use a color example, find the layers and colors used and paint paint paint. My inspiration was a pastel drawing by Paul Citroen, found in one of the old library books i have in stash.

A lot of greens, blues and grey, some yellow and purple shades (hues?).

Perhaps you can see de collage elements on the detail photos. Upper one is a dictionary text part, lower is a public transport ticket, that one is visble through the folds where the paint got stuck in.

oude muur
old wall

It's more organic than an old wall...

LayerLove lesson three, painted on watercolourpaper. Digged up the polymer medium for extra structure in the layer. Public transport tickets and scrapbookpaper as collage items. The stripes are made with a homecarved stamp. Lots and lots and lots and lots of layers. You can click on the photo for an enlargement, maybe the layers are more visible then, although it isn't the sharpest photo made.

Zo, en nu naar de kapper :)
Now off to the hairdressers :)

green greener greenest
groen groener groenst

Mijn tweede canvas gemaakt in Julie's Layer Love les is wel heel erg groen geworden. Ik zal oefenen op wat subtieler kleurgebruik...
My second canvas in Julie's Layer Love class came out really green. I have to practice using more muted colours...

When you take a close look you will see a dictionary fragment on the top, it say's 'toevallig' wich translates as something like 'by chance'. And serendipity it was. I
tored out some random pages of the old book and there it was, cool!
IRL the corrugated pieces aren't so prominent, the light played tricks on me. The pic is a bit grainy due to the high ISO I used, it's those dark december days :)

who's afraid of red?

Seems I am...  I finally started in Julie's Layer Love class and decided to keep close to the example of the teach. She used red...a lot...

I kept adding and moving around paint to tone down the red :D

moederdagcollage
mother's day collage

Yesterday I've finished this collage on a stretched canvas I started last year. It came out as a very colourful work, not very sophisticated, but lots of fun to work on. The two kids are my mom and het oldest brother. Tomorrow I will give the canvas to her. I hope she likes it :)

Happy mother' s day to all!
Fijne moederdag aan allen gewenst!

I'm happy this canvas fits into several themes on challenge blogs :D

Thuis / At Home

Leuke thema's bij Saturday Workout:

Dear SaWo-Friends… This week we would like you to present us your most favorite
technique. Just create what you like most with a technique that you have chosen
for your art work. Means: we announce an open theme for this week and we are
highly expecting your creations !!!
Step Outside Your Box Saturdays:

This week lets clean house a bit. Show me what you can create w/ just the
stuff you’ve got laying on your work area. If it’s anything like mine, you
could create dozens of things with just the scraps and bits and bobs and odds
and ends laying right there with in reach!

en TGIF:
Dear TGiF-friends, this week we would like you to show us your creations without a fixed theme - just present what you like to - means: open theme ! We highly appreciate your art work and your creativity !!!

I'm totally addicted on acrylic paint and I had some canvases started this summer laying around.

The canvases were prep'ed with modelling paste and acrylic paint in July, after that they went MIA... These are two smaller ones, I worked on a slightly larger one today.

Still not finished, but I'm done with it for now :)

On the detail photos you can see the structure, the collaged book pages are slightly visible too.

Dreams

F i n a l l y found the courage to work on the canvases I started a long time ago. Ofcourse I couldn't find the paper strips I teared so carefully back then. I teared new ones, glued these to the canvas and found the first ones back... *LOL*
Now I will let it sit for a few days to see if it's really finished.

Sometimes on the way to our dreams we get lost and find a better one.
(Ooit eens op Godelieve's blog gevonden / found on Godelieve's blog once)

My cheerful lady got a fun gymnastic outfit, bird (GPP) on the look-out, some flowers in the garden and swirls in the corner.
'DREAMS' (Clubscrap) is stamped, the other text is my handwriting.

Werk in uitvoering / Work in progress

Making collages is trying to fit papers and letting it sit for a while to see if things work.

I found the black/white border to coarse and decided to add some stripes.

Next I didn't like the difference between the paper and border and added a tiny green piece. It's a minor change but I like it much better.

Nothing is attached yet, so we'll see if things will stay like this or not.

Zon / Sun

Of toch een bloem? *LOL*
Or is it a flower? *LOL*

I'm a bit behind with the workshop by Karyn Gartel. This is assignment 3: add collage elements.

The photo is from our family collection. We don't have a lot of old photos in our family, this one is from my mom and one of her brothers. Aren't they cuties?
I love the flowers by AudDesign, but they are a bit to small for this canvas. So I decided to doodle some bigger ones. I'm becoming braver by the week heehee.

Musje / Little sparrow

Mijn nieuwe liefde? Acrylverf!
My new love? Acrylic paint! This weekend I'm going to invest in some nice quality tubes. The bottles I use are okay, but the tubes with the heavy body paint are horrible. A local art store has a promo with Liquitex paints, any advice on which colours are a must have?

My latest Kelly Rae collage is a try-out with other colours. I've noticed that taking time is important when making these kind of items. Leaving it for a few days and than working on it for a night seems to work best for me. This collage needed 2 weeks until now, and I'm still not sure if it's finished :)

Ow, look, a sparrow hopped
all the way along the porch
with wet little feet

The text is a haiku translated in Dutch by J.van Tooren. There are lots of cute haiku in that book, I like to use it a lot.

Thanks for the well wishes for my father-in-law. He is slowly recovering now. The second kind of antibiotics is working.

Boohoohoo, it's February today, the Liquitex sale was in January... oooh why is it that I'm so slooooow...

See the difference between the before and after?

Wat extra kleur op de zon:
Added some extra colour on the sun:

The photos don't do justice to the colour, that's a pity :)

I'm not very active at the moment, creative and blogwise. My father-in-law is ill, pneumonia. He is in the hospital now. Every now and than I steal an hour for myself to work on some items.

Hmmmmm

A few canvases I'm working on at the moment.

De vierkante zijn 25x25 cm
The square ones are 10x10"

De rechthoeken zijn 30x40cm
The rectangle ones are 12x16"

There is so much I want to learn... and the online workshops by Karyn Gartel do help me a lot lately :) Now I'm kind of anxious to see how I will finish these four pieces.

I wished i could focus myself more to one technique, maybe then I would master one thing really good. There is so much to choose from and I want to try it all, so let's face it: mastering one technique will never happen...

Kelly Rae Roberts wrote an article in Cloth Paper Scissors a few months ago in wich she explained how she makes her stunning collages. Ever since i saw these i wanted to try something like that. This week I took the plunge and had my first try.

I don't have much experience and ease to draw and paint, so my girl turned out a bit a-symmetric.

But once started painting I had so much fun I forgot to take more photos from the several steps.

Today was a special day for my dad: he was honoured with a royal decoration. It was given to him by the mayor of the town he lives. He was totally surprised and a bit bewildered. He got this decoration for his many volunteer jobs in the community.

No one was informed until a few days ago. I only had time to make him a quick canvas. He liked it :-)
The orange is because of our royal family: 'The house of Orange Nassau'. The red-white-blue is the Dutch flag. Text says something as: Her Majesty is pleased to...
