Mijn schoonvader vroeg me laatst om z'n liedboek te repareren, het was uit de band gevallen.
My father-in-law recently asked me to repair his hymn book, it fell out of its cover.

Ik ben geen gediplomeerd boekreparateur, maar kan wel iets bedenken om het weer een bruikbaar boek te maken.
I'm not a trained book repairer, but I can think off of something to make it a useful book again.

Op de rug van het boekblok heb ik een huls gelijmd en dat weer aan de rug van de band. Om druk uit te oefenen tijdens het drogen wilde ik eigenlijk verband om het boek wikkelen, maar geen cm in huis te vinden. Toen maar wat restjes tricot in stroken geknipt, werkt ook best :) Als het droog is plak ik de scheur in de schutbladen met een strookje Filmoplast. Ik hoop dat ik niet al te erg heb gezondigd tegen allerlei boekbindreparatieregels... (er bestaat niet zoiets als boekbindpolitie, toch?)
I've glued a tube to the spine of the bookblock and glued that to the cover spine. To add some pressure while drying I was planning to wrap to book in a bandage, but not a cm in tha house. So I decided to cut some scraps tricot fabric in strips, works for me :) When it's dry I will repair the tear between the paste down and fly leafs with Filmoplast. I hope I didn't go against all kind of bookbinding repair rules... (there's not something like bookbinding police, right?)

Vandaag zag ik het blogtellertje naar de 200.000 hits gaan, dus heb ik 'm maar even bovenaan gezet :) Altijd leuk om dat te zien gebeuren, beetje in de gaten houden en... hebbes!
Today I noticed the blog counter nearing the 200,000 hits, so I moved it up on the blog :) Always fun to see things like that happen, keeping an eye on it and... gotcha!

Over naar de prijsuitreiking, Random.org heeft z'n best gedaan (ik ook met tellen en hertellen, niemand thuis om na te tellen, dus ik hoop dat het goed geteld is *lol*). Maar liefst 48 reacties op de loterij, zoveel leuke en lieve reacties. Iedereen heel hartelijk bedankt, ik heb het gevoel de grootste winnaar van allemaal te zijn!

On to the name drawing, Random.org did the best it could (i too, counting and recounting, no-one home to check the counting, hope the counting is done right *lol*). I was blown away by the amount of comments at my giveaway: 48! So many lovely and kind comments. Thank you so very much, it made me feel the biggest winner of all!

Nog even geduld voor de enveloppen op de bus gaan, heb mezelf nog geen tijd gegeven om in te pakken. Waarschijnlijk morgenavond, dan kan het donderdag op de post.

kaarten vouwenfolding cards

Net stond ik een paar kaarten te vouwen en bedacht dat een van de manieren waarop ik dat doe wel een aardig bericht op kon leveren :)
Folding cards today made me think of sharing one of my techniques to do so could make for a nice blogpost :)

wat heb je nodig:

• haaks gesneden kaartkarton
• een vouwbeen of iets anders waarmee je de vouw kunt inwrijven
• een rechte opstaande rand; ik gebruik de snijmat, maar een plankje, een lade, de muur, 't werkt allemaal zolang het maar recht is en niet wegschuift

what will you need:

• square cut cardstock
• a folding bone or something alike to rub the folds
• a straight higher edge; i'm using the cutting mat, but a drawer, a board, the wall, it will work all as long as it's straight and will stay put

hoe werkt het:

• leg het karton tegen de rand
• leg de hoeken op elkaar, strak tegen de rand
• neem je vouwbeen, hou de kaart vast en strijk steeds vanuit het midden naar buiten

how it works:

• put the cardstock against the edge
• hold the corners on each other, tight against the edge
• holding the card use the folding bone the rub the fold from the middle to the edges

cakejes met pestopesto cupcakes

Paaszondag met mijn hele familie aan de luch en ik zorg voor een paar hartige hapjes. Deze pestocakejes zijn heerlijk, vooral als ze net uit de oven komen. Da's morgen geen optie, nu maar hopen dat ze na een dag ook nog smaken...
On Easter sunday we have lunch with my family, I'm in charge to make savory snacks. These pesto cupcakes are divine, especially when just baked. Not an option tomorrow, so here's hoping that tomorrow they're still as yummy as today...

Het recept voor 'pestocake met zongedroogde tomaatjes' vind je bij 'photo-copy-ann', mijn favoriete receptenblog. Heel veel heerlijke gerechten en prachtige foto's.
Voor de cakejes heb ik wat meer olie, melk en kaas in het beslag gedaan. Bovenop nog wat geraspte kaas voor extra lekker (en kleur).
I found the 'pesto cake with sundried tomatoes' recipe (in Dutch) at 'photo-copy-ann', my favorite recipe blog. Lots and lots of yummy dishes and photos.
For these cupcakes I used some extra oil, milk and cheese in the batter. On top grated cheese for extra tastiness (and color).

Voor een collega, die haar jongetje kreeg op de dag van die bijzondere volle maan in maart. Badr betekent 'volle maan' in het Arabisch.
For a co-worker who had her baby boy on the day of that special full moon in march. Badr is 'full moon' in Arabic.

Turkoois vellum met daaronder de naam gestempeld. Rondjes gestempeld, geponst en op turkoois keukengaren geplakt.

Masters: Book Arts: Major Works by Leading Artists

Als kers op de taart lag dit boek in de bus, al een tijd voorbesteld en vol verwachting naar uitgekeken. Ik kan er alvast dit over zeggen: als je '500 handmade books' mooi vond, dan zul je dit PRACHTIG vinden!
And the cherry on top was finding this book in the letterbox when I came home. Pre-ordered some time ago and anxious awaited. After paging quickly before going off to bed I can tell you this: when you loved '500 handmade books' you will be THRILLED with this one!

kaartkartoncardstock

Gisteren vond ik dat ik meer kleuren kaartkarton nodig had.
Yesterday I thought I needed more colors in cardstock.

Ik heb eens een half uurtje uitgetrokken om m'n voorraad een beetje op kleur te sorteren. Nu ben ik niet meer zo zeker van die noodzaak...
I've decided to spend half an hour to sort my stash on color just a bit. Now I'm not so sure anymore of the necessity...

Hou ik mooi wat euro's over voor andere dingen ;)

voorjaarskaartspring card

De ontluikende boomblaadjes zijn zo mooi teer van kleur, ik heb hier de kleuren van de esdoorn als voorbeeld genomen.
The sprouting leaf colors are so delicate, here I used the colors of the maple as a lead. 

Masker gesneden uit een ontbijtgranendoos, deze dozen komen met 1 blaadje er uitgestanst, dus dat geeft al inspiratie. De rest van de opdruk uitsnijden is een eitje. Een paar Distress inkten voor het sponzen gebruikt.
Mask cut from a cereal box, these boxes come with one leaf punched out, wich gives instant inspiration. Cutting the remaining leaves is easy peasy. Some Distress ink colors used for sponging.

Komend weekend is het ArtSpecially beurs en ik ben m'n voorraad kaartkarton eens aan het bekijken. Er kunnen wel wat flitsende kleurtjes bij, vind je ook niet?

Next weekend is ArtSpecially event weekend and I'm checking my stash of cardstock. There's need for some nice bright colors, don't you agree?

the land of lost luggage-mixed media and painting classes

Ik probeer nog steeds de geheimen te leren kennen van acrylverf en dankzij Julie en Chris heb ik inmiddels al wat kennis en kunde opgedaan. Alle verfwerkstukken op dit blog zijn onstaan in een van hun lessen. Ze zijn beiden echt super behulpzaam en 'praten' je door een werk heen als dat nodig moest zijn (en reken maar dat dat bij mij nodig is!).

I'm trying to discover the secrets of acrylic paint and all the knowledge and skills I've collected are thanks to Julie and Chris. Both are super duper helpful and 'talk' you through your painting if needed (and be sure I need that!)






Op het moment vieren ze bij 'the land of lost luggage' een feestje en als je tussen nu en 8 mei een workshop begint maak je kans op ALLE huidige en toekomstige workshops gratis en voor niets! WOW! Je begrijpt, ik ben een erg tevreden student, die af en aan een workshop doet bij deze dames en het daarom niet erg vind om een beetje reclame te maken (en natuurlijk maak ik ook graag kans op die superprijs *lol*)

At this very moment 'the land of lost luggage' is celebrating and when you buy a class before May 8 you have a chance to win ALL existing and future classes for free! WOW! As you can see I'm a very satisfied student, who does classes every now and then with these ladies and I'm pleased to do some promoting (and of course I'm in for this super prize *lol*)

Ik schilder intussen stug door en hoop binnenkort een groter canvas te tackelen :)
In the meantime I keep on painting and hope to tackle a larger canvas soon :)
