50 books #24
A book with single sheets can simply be glued at the spine (one of the things I want to try soon), but sewing is a lot more exciting :)

At first these sheets were ment to be made into a Japanes stab binding, that's why I folded all the sheets. I wanted to make a traditional one, open ends at the back and the folding at the front. A Japanese stab binding has a soft cover, that's were the pasted paper came in. But then... seeing the stack it came to me I had done several Japanese bindings before and trying new things is always fun, so there was my change of plans... the Japanese one will come eventually.

The biggest advantage of sewing opposed to glueing single sheets is that the book can lay open flat perfectly. Nice to work in.

This is one of the ways a book like this can be sewn, I like the visible long stitch along the spine. What i like too is the swelling on the spine-edge caused by the thread. When you use this book as a photo album or to tip in collages it will not disform.

Three atc's with the gesso resist technique made for a swap. There's a tutorial on Hermine's blog: click.
The Leonardo da Vinci drawing and hand writing fits loosely in the Bella Italia theme at Wednesday Stampers :D

I wiped the gesso on a painted background, the stamping is heat embossed with black ep. Images snipped from an old library book.

Cuttlebug embossing folder
Another busy day at the ArtSpecially Event in Zeist today. No time to do the planned major shopping, only some speed 'impulse' shopping during lunch hour. One of those impulsive purchases is a Cuttlebug embossing folder to try in my bookbinding press. It works! (allthough it needs some heavy pressing). Now I have this cute embossed paper and am regretting I didn't buy some more patterns...
For the photo I wiped some ink on the embossed figures.
The ArtSpecially website will be updated some time next week with all the tutorials of this weekends classes. Not sure if these will be in the English language part of the site though...

Image from an old Hollywood library book (this is Tyrone Power Sr. in the Big Trail), written songtext "Kaap'ren varen" (an old Dutch traditional:
Edited: i've always associated this song with the long journey around the Cape (south-Africa)... today I've learned it's all about pirates. Never paid enough attention to the text I guess... Kaap'ren (cape) and kaper (pirate) just sounds the same to me. Learn something everyday ;P

In fact the song is based on a Flemish poem: Musical original

Book #23 is a so called 'Secret Belgian Binding' (tutorial: click), one that was on my list since a year or so. ***edit:

Plastic cover from plastic bags stashed in the closet. I think this fusing of plastic bags isn't very good for my health and certainly not good for the environment... but I had to give it a try anyhow...

Something i wanted to make since forever is a dos-a-dos. Two books in one to say so. The sewing is done with my favorite stitch of the moment for one-section books. Pages are made from re-used paper. On some photos you can see the print. Pleas click on the collage for an enlargment.
Fusing plastic bags tutorial: click
Het overkomt me gewoon...
Some thoughts on this project. Fusing plastic bags causes bad fumes and I can imagine this isn't very good for your health and the environment. In the end it will be better when we just use those bags till they are worn out completely and than send them to a recycle place. A better way is, of course, not using plastic bags at all. I always try to take a shopping bag with me and end up with plastic bags cluttered in the house eventhough... It just happens...

Alvast bedankt.
A P.S.
I have moved my feedburner to my Google account and updated the feed-address. It might be neccesary to renew your subsription to the feed of this blog.
*lol* Feels a bit pointless to post this heads up here. When you read this in the feed-subscription, all is sent properly to you. When you don't read this in your feed-subscription... hmmm than you don't know you have to renew the feed-address..
Anyway, to any feed-subscribers: please renew your feed subscription when you want to continue reading my posts by feeds :D Can any of you let me know the feed is working or not? Thank you in advance.

Weird, I expected to see the paper decay in no time, but apparently it needs some more weather to do so...
In the meantime spring is starting to appear in the garden. Daffodils and lungworts are blooming. Goldfinches are preparing for breeding season and that little bundle... I'll wait...
