Probeersel / Tried something out

*LOL*

One of the Crusade 18 participants, Stephanie Hilvitz, wondered if there was a tool to make perfect round holes in the carving material. That made me wonder if a Japanese screw punch would do the trick. It does, however...

  • I'm not sure if the tool was very happy with the job or may be I will need a new bit soon.

  • The bits screwed out of the punch handle while drilling and the carving material stayed put in the bits. A skewer helped to remove the 'gummi' (do you call the material this?).

  • The carving block didn't like to have the holes close to each other, it cracked. That's fun if you want to achieve a distressed look...

  • It could be my material was outdated, it was at least 4 years in a drawer.

*** End of review ***
*LOL*

This is the working space left on my desk... The screw punch is at the right, I used 1,5 - 3 and 4 mm bits to make the holes.

Using a dark colour makes the cracks pop.

  2. Dymphie - great use of the screw punch to get circles. I was thinking Steph wanted a solution for cutting around circles, not cutting out circles. You gave me an idea. *runs to go try something*

Thanks for sharing your tip! Love that stamp!

  3. Hoi Dymphie,
    Hedwig

  8. Wow, you have come up with SO many good ideas! I can't decide which is my favorite but want to try them all. It is totally cool that these ideas have no borders and translate to artists around the world. Thank you!

  9. Dymphie,
Thank you! Of course, yet I had not seen it! I am addicted to circles and prefer bird's and other eyes spared of triangles.
    Your stamps are fabulous!

  20. Dymphie......great minds think alike :) I did the opposite of what you did and wrote about it. I pushed the punch just a little into the block and then took the carving tool up to the line and the pieces just popped out around the circle. So I ended up getting the reverse of your circles. I love your stamp and that card with the eye.
