Het was even een klus, maar nu heb ik alles op een rijtje :) Van alle kleuren acrylverf die ik heb, heb ik strips gemaakt met allerlei kleurvariaties. Een openbaring.
It was hard work, but now i'm sorted :) All colors acrylic paint i own are on swatches with all kind of hues too. An eyeopener.

Ook van alle kleuren een staal op een stuk overheadsheet gemaakt, handig om eens ergens op te houden. 

All colors have a transparency swatch also, handy to hold over other colors.

Vanmiddag, op weg naar huis, toch nog even bij de tekenvak gestopt en 4 nieuwe kleuren gekocht :)
Volgende opdracht: kleurenwielen...

Dit weekend ga ik een kleurenbibliotheek aanleggen van al die 16 kleuren acrylverf die ik heb. Er is ruimte voor meer :)

Nog steeds bezig met de eerste schildercursus, dit is les 6. En nog steeds lukt een beetje zachter kleurgebruik me niet... Ik wil graag genoeg van kleuren weten om er het papier voor m'n boekbanden mee te gaan decoreren. Ondertussen ben ik begonnen met de lessen kleurgebruik, dus misschien komt het goed dus het komt goed!
Still working in my first painting class, this is assignment 6. Still no luck in using more muted colours... I want to learn all about color-use to be able to decorate the paper i want to make my bookcovers with. In the meantime I started the course in color-use, so maybe I will tackle the colors in the end!

Het was duidelijk een ritje naar Ikea (ik ben niet bang) en ik denk dat ik een keer terug ga voor nog zo'n stang en misschien een lamp.
It obvious was an Ikea-trip (i'm cool like that) and i think I will go back for another rail and additional lightning.

Kijk eens hoe geavanceerd mijn penselendroogsysteem is :D Ik ben dol op wasknijpers voor allerlei klusjes.

Sinds ik een jaar of tien terug begon met boeken maken probeer ik boeken over boekbinden te vinden en tot twee jaar terug lukte dat niet goed... het was nooit (echt niet!) bij me opgekomen om via internet in andere landen boeken te bestellen... Altijd gewoon in een plaatselijke boekhandel gekocht en dan vind je toch niet veel over dit onderwerp.
Een van de eerste boeken die ik ooit te pakken kreeg was 'Cover to Cover' van Shereen LaPlantz, wat een openbaring was dat. Ik was net begonnen met boekbindlessen en bij de boekbinder waar ik een dag per week kwam was het traditie wat de klok sloeg, ik had geen idee dat er ook 'vrij' werk bestond. En ja, toen was het hek van de dam. Nu ben ik naast het vrije werk ook weer terug bij de traditionele bindingen beland, daar kun je zoveel techniek in kwijt. Ik denk niet dat ik ooit uitgeleerd raak.


In de tussentijd heb ik een bescheiden plankje met een divers pluimage aan boekbind- en papierboeken bij elkaar gescharreld. Heerlijk om door te bladeren, ideeën uit op te doen en nieuwe technieken van te leren. En er kan nog veel meer bij!

Since i started making books some 10 years ago i'm trying to find books on bookbinding and until two years back i didn't manage well... it never (really!) occurred to me it was possible to order books in other countries via the internet... Always bought my books at local stores and it's hard to find books on this subject in the average bookstore.
One of the first bookbinding books I ever laid my hands on was Shereen LaPlantz' 'Cover to Cover'. Gosh, what an eye-opener was that. At that time I was following lessons a day a week in a very traditional bookbinder's workshop, I had no idea there was 'free' work also. All kind of fun started from there and now i'm back at the traditional techniques in the hobby class i'm attending. So much to learn, so few hours in a day.


In the meanwhile I collected a small shelve with a variation bookbinding and paperwork books. Great to page through, find ideas in and learn new techniques from. And there is room for a lot more!

Every now and than i like to fiddle a little in GIMP to improve my photo manipulating skills, it's fun and time consuming... this is how advanced I am *lol*.

dat werkt nietthat doesn't work

15 berichtjes de afgelopen 15 dagen en dat was het dan... iedere dag een bericht, dat had ik me in een dolle bui en optimistisch voorgenomen. nou neem van mij aan dat dat niet gaat lukken naast een fulltime baan.
Dus nu gewoon weer terug naar een paar keer per week, net hoe het te pas komt. In ieder geval ieder weekend een werkkamerfoto en iedere week een luciferdoosje. Volgende week ga ik weer beginnen met de boekbindlessen en dan ga ik zelf ook thuis weer boeken en dozen maken. Goede plannen, ik voel me vrij :)


15 posts in the last 15 days and that was it... a post a day, that was what silly me wanted to do, well believe me it doesn't go next to a fulltime job.
Now back to my regular schedule of a few posts a week, going with the flow. For sure are there my studio photos every weekend and an altered matchbox every week. Next week my bookbinding class starts again and I will begin bookbinding and making boxes at home again too. Good plans, i'm feeling free :)

Ik heb er wel lol in, deze poppetjes te tekenen, het tekenen gaat al iets minder krampachtig... en omdat ik deze week nog een verjaardagskaartje nodig had heb ik me maar op dat thema geconcentreerd.
'Van Harte' is een Studio Art stempel (Hermine's ontwerp). In het echie is het papier gewoon wit, ik kreeg het niet gecorrigeerd.


I'm having fun, drawing these poppets, the drawing is going more loose already... and just because i need a birthday card this week I decided to concentrate on that subject.
Dutch text ('congrats') is a Studio Art rubber stamp (designed by Hermine). In real the paper is smooth white, I couldn't get the white balance right when adjusting the photo.

Sinds een paar uur zit dit mini-duifje in de tuin. Het beestje is ongeveer van lijsterformaat (beetje kleiner) en heeft knalrode oogjes. Ik denk dat het uit een voliere is ontsnapt...
Since a few hours this mini-pigeon is sitting in the garden. The creature is about the size of a song thrush, a bit smaller, it has bright red eyes. I think it escaped from a aviary...




Onze nieuwe slaapkamerkast wordt vandaag geplaatst en de mannen hebben alle planken voor de deur van m'n atelier gezet, daar kan ik dus nu niet in, net op m'n vrije dag.
Our new wardrobe closet is installed today and the carpenters put all the shelves in front of the studio door, no entry there for me on my day off from work.

Nadat ik deze week een tweede luciferdoosje versierd heb bedacht ik me dat dat wel een jaarproject kan worden. Niet al te ambitieus, ik heb nog zoveel plannen, dit past er net nog bij. In het raamkozijn staat alvast een rijtje nog te bewerken doosjes klaar. Als het jaar uit is hoop ik er 52 (of 53?) af te hebben.

When I altered that second matchbox this week i thought that this would be my year project, sweet and simple. I like it being a minor task, there are so many plans swirling in my head and the 52 (or 53?) tiny boxes just fit in. In the window frame some stash to work on.

Vrijdag heb ik dan eindelijk (na anderhalf jaar hè hè!) de knopjes op de deuren van m'n kasten in het atelier gezet. Tot dan zat er van dat blauwe IKEA beschermplastic op, daarmee kon ik de deurtjes openen, maar een mooi gezicht was het niet en handig al helemaal niet... Dus de boormachine ter hand genomen en 8 gaten afgemeten en geboord. Ik ben trots op mezelf :) en ik zie nu op de foto hierboven dat de ruiten wel eens gezeemd mogen worden, iemand vrij?

Last friday I finally (...at last after waiting for a year and a half!) attached the door knobs on the closets in the studio. Until than there was this blue IKEA protection plastic on the doors, i used that to open the closets, not a very sophisticated sight, let alone handy... So I took the power drill and measured and drilled 8 holes. I'm proud :) and now I notice on the photo above that the windows can use a cleaning, anyone available?
