This year's advent period I'm altering 24 matchboxes. Concertina's (leporello's) are a fun element in these kind of boxes, almost like a toy.

Dit jaar maak ik tijdens de adventsperiode 24 luciferdoosjes. Ik merk ineens dat alle doosjes tot nu in een horizontale richting zijn gemaakt. Dat was niet echt een bewuste keuze.

This year's advent period I'm altering 24 matchboxes. Suddenly I've noticed that all boxes until now are made in a landscape orientation. It's not a really conscious choice.

This year's advent period I'm altering 24 matchboxes. It's also about rummaging through closets and boxes and finding back semi forgotten treasures.

Dit jaar maak ik tijdens de adventsperiode 24 luciferdoosjes. Om werkdagen en donkerte (foto's!) voor te blijven maak ik steeds een paar doosjes in één zitting, dat is leuk werken heb ik al gemerkt.

This year's advent period I'm altering 24 matchboxes. To stay ahead of working days and darkness (photos!) I'm making a few boxes everytime in one session. I've noticed this is a fun way to work.

Dit jaar maak ik tijdens de adventsperiode 24 luciferdoosjes geïnspireerd door 'Paperiaarre'. Jammer genoeg besloot Kaija (Paperiaarre) dit jaar geen luciferdoosjes te maken.

This year's advent period I'm altering 24 matchboxes inspired by Paperiaarre. Sadly, after four years in a row making advent matchboxes, Kaija (Paperiaarre) decided to take a break this year.

hoe maak je een 'tape-mesje' how to make a 'tape cutter'

Tape scheuren is leuk, maar soms wil je (m.n. dubbelzijdig) tape heel precies positioneren en dan is dit stukje gereedschap een goed hulpmiddel.
To tear tape is fun, sometimes however you want to position (in particular double-sided) tape very accurate and then this small tool is a helpful device.

't Is eenvoudig zelf te maken, men neme:

• een laatste stuk van een breekmes uit het 'scherpedingenkerkhof'
  (zo'n stuk is nooit gebruikt, dus vlijmscherp, dat moet ook, dus wees voorzichtig hè?)
• een restje mdf
• stukje schuurpapier
• lijm of kit
• washitape om je nieuwe gereedschap een persoonlijk tintje te geven

It's eay to make one, you'll need:

• an end piece of a 'snap-off' blade from the 'sharp thingy cemetery'
  (such a piece is never been used, it's still really sharp, which is the point, so be sure to be careful not to cut yourself)
• an mdf left-over piece
• sandpaper
• glue or kit
• washi tape to personalize your new tool

Smeer een dunne laag kit op het blokje en duw daar het mesje op
Spread a tin even layer kit on the mdf and push the blade on it

Smeer het schuurpapier in met kit en plak dat ook op het mdf-blokje
Spread some kit on the sandpaper and attach on the mdf cube too

Laat goed drogen onder een gewicht (makkelijker: een kleine lijmklem)
Let dry under some weight (more easy: a small glue clamp)

Ik had zo gauw niets anders bij de hand, dus het was even balanceren met dat enorme gewicht :)
I didn't have something smaller at hand, so it was a balancing act with this huge weight :)

En hoe gebruik je nu zo'n mesje? Nou zo:
And how to use such a cutter? Well, like this:

Vergeet niet een doosje te maken om het nieuwe gereedschap in op te bergen. Je wilt tenslotte niet op je vingers testen hoe scherp het is, geloof me maar...
Don't forget to make a nice box for the new tool. You don't want to test the sharpness of the blade on your fingers, trust me on that...

Ik vind het echt superhandige mesjes. Sinds ik zo'n mesje, een paar jaar terug, gebruikte tijdens een workshop kan ik haast niet meer zonder :)
I think these cutters are really handy. I can hardly imagine to go without one ever since I used a cutter like this in a workshop some years ago :)

When you follow my blog's FB-page (which is in Dutch only, sorry) you might have noticed it :) A few of my handmade books are showcased in a small local public library.  

Staat mooi hè? Ben er best trots op :) Jammer dat ik dit jaar zo weinig aan het maken van nieuwe boeken ben toegekomen...

For the occasion I created a QR-code for my blog, seemed kind of cool to me :)

Scannen en dan mobiel op mijn blog langskomen is nu wel heel makkelijk (als je tenminste niet zo'n antieke foon hebt als ondergetekende).
