Een poos terug alweer liet ik mijn eerste poging zien tot een Frans (dubbel) handbestoken kapitaal. Het boek is af, eigenlijk al een poosje, maar het stond nog in het cursuslokaal. Gisteren met de laatste les van dit seizoen dacht ik er gelukkig aan het mee naar huis te nemen.

Some time ago I shared my first try on sewing French double headbands. The book is finished for some time already and was still in the classroom. Yesterday was the last lesson of this season and luckily I thought of bringing it home with me.

Het zijden borduurgaren is in de kleuren van het marmer. Als je op de foto klikt kun je zien dat ik toch weer hier en daar een slag heb gemist, vandaar de hobbeltjes.

The silk embroidery thread is in the colors of the marmbled paper. When you click on the photo some flaws will be more visible, clearly I missed a turn every now and than.

Genaaid op uitgevlast touw, nepribben op de rug, kunstleer, antiek marmer (ooit eens gekregen van iemand die stopte met boekbinden). Formaat is A6.

Sewn on frayed out hemp cord, faux ribs on the spine, faux leather, antique marmbled paper (given to me by someone who stopped bookbinding). Size is A6 (appr. 4.1 × 5.8") 

Is there someone who can help me with the proper English name for these style of binding?

boekjes 'doos'booklet 'case'

Gisteravond maakte ik ook nog een doosje om de notitieblokjes heen, dat geeft leuker. De tekst voorop is een stempel die ik ooit zelf gutste en sindsdien op een of andere manier bij alle kadoboeken heb gebruikt.

Yesterday evening I made a small case for the small noteblocks, much more fun to give this way. The text on the front is stamped with a self-carved stamp. Since I made it I have used it on all gift books one way or another.

Het patroon van het doosje vond ik bij Mirkwood. Ik heb de maten aangepast voor de blokjes.

The template of the case was found at Mirkwood. I adjusted the size to fit the blocks.

Voor de blokjes gebruikte ik mijn gewone naaimachine met gewoon wit naaigaren. De naald wordt wel bot van papier naaien, dus die is niet meer geschikt voor 'echt' naaiwerk, apart houden dus. Ik moest af en toe het wiel even helpen rondgaan, maar verder ging het best makkelijk, gewoon niet te veel blaadjes nemen :)

The blocks are sewn with my 'ordinary' sewing machine with 'ordinary' machine sewing thread. Paper sewing blunts the needle, so I keep it apart, it's not fit anymore to use on fabric. On some parts the wheel needed a hand to go round, otherwise it went smoothly, just keep the number of pages low :)

The backside has button snaps with some embroidery floss around as a closure.

Luciferboekjesmodel, genaaid met de naaimachien, kwam die ook weer eens uit de kast :) Hergebruikt printerpapier, meeste teksten en karton van Clubscrap en 'notes' met losse letters van MaVinci.

Matchbook-notebook, sewn with a sewing machine, it was happy to see some light :) Re-used printer paper, front texts and cardstock from Clubscrap, 'notes' with alpha by MaVinci.

Twee nieuwe inkten (Barn Door, Wild Honey), een oude (Mustard Seed, wie verzint die namen??? Het zijn mooie kleuren hoor, daar niet van, maar die namen...) en wat water op een stukje plastic. Stukje kaartkarton erdoorhalen en je krijgt zoiets:


Two new inks (Barn Door, Wild Honey), an old one (Mustard Seed, who thinks up these names???? The colors are lovely, don't get me wrong, but those names...) and some water on a plastic sheet. Drag some cardstock through it and you will get something like this:

Distress achtergronden zijn altijd leuk om te maken, de eerste 'druk' had een lekker zonnige kleur. Het kaartje dat ik er mee maakte leek nergens naar, dus daar heb ik maar wat labels van gesneden.

Distress backgrounds are always fun to make, my first 'print' had a nice bright sunny color. The card I made with it was, well, not one i would send out to someone. So I cut it up into tags.

De rest van de Distress inkt op het plastic heb ik opgedept met een tweede kaartje, dat is dus veel lichter van kleur.

Ik vind het ook altijd leuk om éénlaags-kaarten te proberen, dit is zo'n probeersel. Waarschijnlijk ga ik er toch nog een laagje opplakken voor wat rust op de kaart en hou dit als achtergrond. Nu word ik er een beetje iebelig van *lol*.

I always like it trying to make one-layer cards, this is one. This is one of these tries. Probably I will add a layer and keep this as a boukground. Like it is now it makes my eyes a bit 'itchy' *lol*.

Ik heb het kaartje geplakt zoals Klaartje deed bij het kaartje dat ik van haar in het kadotasje kreeg. Zo'n kaartvouw vind ik leuk.

I glued the card like Klaartje did on the card she surprised me with in her giftbag. I like this cardfold.

Jawel, in enkelvoud... ik heb een (1!) hele stempel gekocht op de beurs. Niet echt goed voor de stempeleconomie, maar ik denk dat een aantal anderen dat helemaal in orde hebben gemaakt.
Yep, singular... i bought one (1!) rubber stamp at the event. Not really the way to keep the stamping economy going. Looking around I think some others made good for me.

Omdat alleen ook maar alleen is, mocht ze samen met een bloem op een kaartje en op de foto.
Because she felt so lonely I digged up a flower to accompany her on a card and photo.

Op de ART-Specially beurs heb ik samen met Karin en Dieke de workshop aquarelleren met Distress inkt gegeven. Het is een 'beginners techniek' omdat je niet veel materialen nodig hebt. Dat wil nog niet zeggen dat het makkelijk is ;)
Hieronder zie je een oefenvelletje van mij, als het niet erg lukt wordt je giechelig en ga je gekke dingen doen... tenminste ik wel... 'slaap lekker, klein groen meisje'


During the Art Specially event I teached a class with Karin and Dieke, using Distress ink as a waterpaint. It's a so called 'beginners technique' because you don't need a lot of special 'equipment' (my brain isn't working properly, so my english even more sloppy than usual, sorry). Beware, this so called beginners technique is not the same as a simple technique ;) 
Below you see one of my practising sheets, when things don't work, you will get giggly and paint strange colors and add funny bits... at least I do... 'sleep well, little green girl'

We hebben een geweldig weekend gehad, zoveel mensen gezien en (even) gesproken. Hier teren we wel een jaartje op!

Wat is leuker dan zelf het pakpapier te versieren? Ik vond bij De Slegte dit boekje met een paar hele leuke projecten. Kalligraferen kan ik niet, maar de ideeën uitvoeren die er in staan wel. De best bestede €4,- van de laatste tijd :)


What's more fun than decorating wrapping paper yourself? The book I found in a book discounter. I'm not a calligrapher, but this book contains a few very nice projects. The best €4,- spent since weeks :)

De bloemetjes vond ik nog in de kast, vastgezet met wat gekleurd metaaldraad.
The flowers where found in my stash, attached to the twine with colored wire.

Mijn winnaressen van onze loterij bij 'Deze is ook Leuk' ga ik morgen op de ARTSpecially-beurs in Zeist ontmoeten. Leuk!

vrolijk pasenhappy easter

Ik wilde een kleinigheidje maken voor de collega's die morgen werken en werd helemaal vrolijk van de kadodoosjes die Audrey vanmiddag linkte bij 'Deze is ook leuk'. (Heb je al meegedaan aan onze loterij daar? Leuke prijzen: klik)

Wat inkt, water, stempels, papier, stukje lint en de Paastaart is klaar :) In de doosjes zit wat te snoepen voor tussendoor.

I wanted to make a small gift for my co-workers to give tomorrow. The fun giftboxes Audrey linked today at 'Deze is ook leuk' made me run to my studio.

Ink, water, stamps, paper, ribbon and the Easter cake is ready to serve :) In the boxes some candy to keep them going.

Crazy Amigo's doen het met inkt en water deze week, dus dat komt mooi uit, kan ik daar ook weer eens mee doen.

Crazy Amigo's want us to use ink and water this week, so I can enter this at their challenge, hurray!

Ik heb zeven lapjes katoen gecacheerd en toen was de stijfsel op... (les voor de volgende keer: meer stijfsel klaarmaken!)
I paper backed seven sheets of cotton fabric and ran out of paste... (note to self: make more paste next time!)

Alle grote gladde vlakken zijn bezet, het zevende lapje zit op de achterkant van de deur. De foto's zijn met een groothoek gemaakt, vandaar dat de deur zo krom lijkt.
All large smooth surfaces are occupied, the seventh sheet is on the back of the door. Pictures are made with a wide-angle lense, hence the strange looking door.

Het zijn 'fat quarters' (ong. 18"x22" ong 45x55 cm), vorig jaar in Bar Harbor gekocht.
These are all 'fat quarters' (appr. 18x22"), bought last year in Bar Harbor. 

Ik zie mezelf een boel gezellige boeken en dozen maken in de nabije toekomst :)
I can see myself making a lot of happy books and boxes in the near future :)
