Vandaag was ik bij een lezing en demo van Benjamin Elbel en thuis ben ik gelijk maar begonnen met snijden en vouwen (anders vergeet je het maar).
Today I attended a lecture and demo by Benjamin Elbel and coming home I started immediately with cutting and folding (otherwise I will forget you know).

Het was even geleden dat ik met boeken in de weer was...
It's been some time since I was working on book things...

Zo jammer dat ik morgen moet werken, anders had ik de dagworkshop ook nog kunnen volgen. Maar ach, er komt vast een nieuwe kans :)

Voor een toekomstig project wilde ik een niet al te nette gestreepte driehoekstempel. Dus toen ik net thuis kwam (10 km windkracht 7 tegen, aj), heb ik gelijk het lino opgezocht en, huppekee, een stempel :)
For a future project I wanted a 'casual' striped triangle stamp. So when I arrived home from work (cycling 10k against 7bft wind, ay) I immediate digged up the lino and presto a stamp :)

Ik kon maar niet besluiten wat voor binding als een 'dank je wel' voor de gulle geefster te maken. Eindelijk, maanden later, dan een knoop doorgehakt. Kijk maar...
Een binding in Japanse stijl. Bijna hetzelfde als ik een jaar geleden in serie maakte: 5 boeken voor het DIOLteam. Dit boek is een cm hoger en ik heb het naaipatroon een beetje aangepast, vijf ruiten ipv vier op rij. Dat extra ruitje kon net, ook omdat het maar één boek is, het zijn toch wel veel extra naaisteken :))
I just couldn't decide what binding to make a a litlle 'thank you' for the generous young lady. Now months later I finally bit the bullet. Take a look...
A binding in Japanese style. Almost the same I made in serie a year ago: 5 books for the DIOLteam. This book is half an inch higher and I adjusted the sewing pattern a little, five diamonds on a row instead of four. It was only one book so the extra diamond with the additional sewing passages wasn't too much of a hassle :)

Net voor ik het inpakkken bedacht ik nog m'n naamstempel te gebruiken op een restje marmerpapier. Uitgeknipt en achter in het boek geplakt.
Just before wrapping up I thought of using my name stamp on a scrap piece marbled paper. Cut out and pasted in the back of the book.

Hoe maak je papier met textuur?
How to make textured paper?

Bijvoorbeeld door twee lagen Chinees papier met katoendraad ertussen op elkaar te lijmen. Ik gebruikte daarvoor een verdunde mix van pva en stijfsel.
Try layering cotton thread and two layers Chinese tissue paper sandwiched together. I used a watered down mix from pva and paste to do so.

pop-up bal pop-up ball

Gisteren zag ik hoe je een een pop-up bal maakt via Pinterest en ik wist gelijk wat ik er mee wilde doen. 
Yesterday I learned how to make a pop-up ball via Pinterest and instantly knew what I wanted to do with it.

Constructies als deze vind ik zo gaaf. De bal kan plat in een envelop, stel je de verrassing voor als die envelop wordt opengemaakt :)
I love these paper constructions. The ball fits flat in an envelope, imagine the surprise when the envelope is opened :)

Dat elastiek bevestigen is nog wel een beetje tricky. Zolang het los zit, wil het er erg graag af (denk aan die fietsband die niet terug om je wiel wil).
Attaching the elastic band is a bit tricky. As long as it is not all the way around, it will pop off easily (think changing tires on your bicycle wheels).

Van de oude stempel, dat ben ik :)  Alleen oudere stempels van Art Journey gebruikt en de neutrale kleuren passen mooi bij het uitdagingthema van het AJ-designteam van deze maand.

Dit is zo'n project dat nooit goed tot z'n recht komt op foto's, zelfs op een filmpje is het niet zo leuk als in 't echie. Dus ik zou zo zeggen: Maak er ook een, plezier gegarandeerd!
This is one of these projects you have to see in real life. So my advice: Make one yourself, lots of fun ahead!



Eigenlijk heet zo'n bal een dodecaëder*, maar ik noem dit regelmatige twaalfvlak** een 'pop-up bal', veel makkelijker :)
* probeer dat eens 5 keer snel te zeggen
** ik ben fan van Wikipedia, je dacht toch niet dat ik dit uit m'n duim zoog hè?
In fact it's called a dodecahedron*, but I will name this twelve faced -hedron** a 'pop-up ball', far more easy :) 
*try saying that 5 times fast
** I'm a Wikipedia fan, you didn't assume I make this up myself, do you?

Eigenlijk was ik het niet van plan, maar ja... saaie enveloppen zijn er al genoeg en 't is veel leuker om kleurrijke post te ontvangen :) 
In fact I didn't plan to do it, but well... there are already more than enough boring envelopes and it's lots more fun receiving colorful mail :) 

Op de plek waar het adres komt een stukje maskeertape plakken voor het gelprinten hielp om een blanco stukje te houden, want ik ging helemaal los met het versieren van de verzendenveloppen :)

Putting a piece of masking tape on the address side before starting gel printing helped to keep a clean spot, because I went totally 'loose' decorating the mailing envelopes :)

Je ziet ze niet op de foto's, maar de gekleurde strookjes maskertape zijn natuurlijk ook mee de envelop ingegaan :) De leuke paperclip-hangers komen bij Flying Tiger vandaan

Jawel, ik ben nog steeds met blogpauze. Vandaag wat papier uitgezocht voor een boek dat (net als dat van maandag) al heel lang overtijd is... Yep, I'm still on my blog break. Today I've sorted some paper for a book that is long overdue (just like monday's)...

Gaan Anneke en ik verder met onze onderlinge boekuitdagingen na ruim een jaar onderbreking? Wie zal 't zeggen? :)
Are Anneke and I continuing our book challenges after more than a year hiatus? Who knows? :)

Deze is ter gelegenheid van de verjaardag van Janine. Ze stuurde lang geleden wat spullen met een uitdaging: maak een boek met een indianenthema. In de envelop schelpkralen, echte vogelveren en plantaardig vezelgaren. Dat alles kwam uit Canada.
Eén probleem, mijn kennis van de  oorspronkelijke inwoners van Noord-Amerika is niet zo groot. Gelukkig meldde ze ook nog dat veel kunst uit die contreien erg kleurrijk is. Dat is dan ook mijn thema geworden.
This one is made at the occasion of Janine's birthday. Long ago she sent a few items with a challenge: make an indian themed book. In the envelope shell beads, real birth feathers and vegetable fibers. All this came from Canada.
Just a minor problem occurred, my knowledge of Native Americans is almost non-existing. Luckily she wrote that a lot of the art is very colorful, so I adapted that as my theme.

Genaaid met het plantaardige 'garen' uit het pakketje. Dat garen was nogal vet, even verhitten en afvloeien hielp wel iets tegen de plakkerigheid. Laten we zeggen dat ik geen handencrème nodig had toen ik met naaien klaar was :)
Sewn with the vegetable 'thread' from the parcel. The thread was really waxy, some heating and blotting helped a little with the stickiness. Let's say I didn't need hand lotion when finished sewing :)

gel printen op agar-agar gel printing on agar-agar

Vandaag de agar-agar plaat weer uit de koelkast getrokken en wat prints gemaakt. Deze keer had ik heel veel info in m'n hoofd. Ik heb me namelijk dit weekend ingeschreven bij Julie Fei-Fan Balzer voor de les 'Getting started with the Gelli Plate' en las een nieuwe blogpost met tips van Linda Germain. 
Today I've pulled the agar-agar plate from the fridge to do some printing. This time I started with a head full of info. That's because I've registered for Julie Fei-Fan Balzer's class 'Getting started with the Gelli Plate' and I've read Linda Germain's new blogpost with lots of tips.

Veel heel veel prints maken om de gang er in te krijgen, dat raden beide dames aan. Ik heb een doos goedkoop oud filtreerpapier staan, geen soort van kwaliteit, en een doos 'antiek' kettingpapier. Alletwee goed genoeg om zonder veel na te denken lekker mee te rommelen.
Lots and lots of print making to get the hang of it, that's the advice of both ladies. I have this box of ancient low quality filter paper and a box of 'ancient' printing paper. Both good enough to keep me busy without thinking.

De agar-agar plaat is inmiddels zo'n zes weken oud en nog steeds goed, geen schimmel, alleen wat barsten en stukjes eruit van het gebruik. Na de eerste sessie vandaag besloot ik de plaat eens te smelten om te zien hoe hergebruikte agar-agar zou werken. Dat leverde een mooie gladde plaat die ook weer gelijk in gebruik is genomen (meters maken!).
The agar-agar plat is about 6 weeks in use now, still working fine, no molding, only some cracks and chipped pieces. After the first printing session today I decided to melt the plate to see how the agar-agar printed when reused. It resulted in a nice smooth brand new plate which had it's maiden print immediate (making mileages!).
