R.I.P. little monster

little monster committed suicide, it was not a pretty sight and i will spare you the gross details, but a book press and some glue contaminated paper was involved... 


klein monster heeft zelfmoord gepleegd, het was geen fraai gezicht en ik zal je de gruwelijke details besparen, maar er kwam een boekenpers en papier met lijm erop aan te pas... 

The give-a-way still goes on, i will create a new little monster.

Het weggevertje gaat gewoon door, ik maak een nieuw klein monster.

Loslaten is het devies als het kleurenmengen niet loopt zoals je wilt...

Let loose is the motto when color blending doesn't go as one wants it to go...

en dan maar een klein (A5) éénkaternboek van dat vel maken.

Acrylverf en oostindische inkt op aquarelpapier, 40 bladzijdes (kantjes) glad 120 grams papier, A5 formaat, 'twist' binding (Keith Smith).

Het 'loslaten' ga ik maar letterlijk nemen. Dus, wie wil er goed voor zorgen? Dan zijn we allebei blij met deze loslaatactie, ik omdat dit monstertje uit het zicht verdwijnt, jij omdat je er een krabbelboekje erbij hebt :) 
(en als er meer liefhebbers zijn laat ik zondagavond maandagavond de randomdinges er op los)
I'm going to take the 'let loose' literally. So, who wants to take good care of it? We will both benefit from this let loose action, I because the little monster goes out of sight, you because you can have an extra scribble book handy :)
(and when there are more who want to receive it I will get the random thingy into action sunday monday evening)

viltzeepfelted soap

Ik wilde zoiets proberen vanaf het moment dat ik ze de eerste keer zag: gevilte zeepjes! Vandaag was ik bij Hermine (mijn vilt-goeroe) en tussen het kletsen door hadden we tijd voor zo'n zeepje. Ik blij :)
I wanted to try my hand on this as soon as I spotted these cute items: felted soaps! Today I visited Hermine (my felting guru) and while chatting we had some time felting one. Happy camper here :)

Hermine bedankt voor het viltlesje, ik denk dat ik toch een beetje om ben ;)

Alsof ik wat nodig had... maar er lag een kadobon te branden in m'n tas :)

Gekleurd linnen garen, mijn 'zelfkleurexperimenten' zijn even op de lange baan geschoven.
Linen thread in several colors, my self dyeing experiments are postponed for the time being.

Een paar vellen boekbindpapier (vissen, vlinders, japanse tekst, etiketten) die ook prima voor collagewerk zijn te gebruiken. Mooi bedrukt, soepel, stevig papier, heerlijk. De vellen zijn enorm: 70x100cm, dus ik kan even vooruit.
A few sheets bookbinding paper (fish, butterflies, japanese text, labels), these can be used for collage work as well. Nicely printed, smooth sturdy paper, love it. These sheets are huge: appr. 27,5"x39,4", seems I can go ahead for awhile.

bijna afalmost there

Ik wilde dat ik wat 'losser' kon schilderen, misschien is het een kwestie van vaker doen, misschien gaat het bij mij gewoon niet anders. De tijd zal het leren :) 

Dit canvas heeft nog een beetje afwerking nodig, ik denk  een woord of tekst linsboven. Iemand een gaaf idee voor me?

De collage plaatjes zijn van divers pluimage; stippels uit een tijdschrift, eieren van 'The Last Door Down the Hall', antieke grootboekpagina heb ik ooit eens kado gekregen.

I want to be able to paint 'looser', maybe I need to practice more, maybe it's just the way i work. We'll see :)

This canvas is in need of some finishing touches, a word or some text in the upper left is what I'm thinking of. Someone has a cool idea for me?

The collage items are from various sources; dotted paper from a magazine, eggs from 'The Last Door Down the Hall', vintage register page was a gift long ago.

Het schoenenborsteltje is een van de dingen waarmee ik accenten in de verf aan breng. Deze keer gebruikt om er mee te stempelen.

The shoe brush is one of the items I use to make accents in the paint. This time it's used to stamp with.

Alleen een beetje zitten (zie vorig bericht) is toch niet echt mijn stijl... wat papier, garen, naald en een uurtje of zo, da's al wat nodig is om een kleinigheidje te fabrieken. Geen lijm aan te pas gekomen, dus dat maakt het helemaal echt een vluggertje ;)
Just sitting (read previous post) isn't my style... some paper, thread, a needle and an hour or so, that's all that's needed to make a little something. There's no glue involved, which make's it a really quick one ;)

een begin...a start...

Alle kleuren acrylverf blauw en groen die ik heb (dat zijn er 6) plus titan white. De fiets en de kaartjes zijn gelmedium-transfers. Ik wilde er nog een onder de fiets aan de rand, maar de printjes zijn op :)  
Inmiddels heeft het middelste kaartje ook z'n pluisjes verloren, ik heb maar geen nieuwe foto gemaakt (lui mens, ha!)
Fiets lang geleden gevonden bij Graphics Fairy, kaartjes waren ooit een freebie van Stampington.


All acrylic paint in green and blue i own (that's 6) are used here plus titan white. The bicycle and tickets are gelmedium transfers. I wanted to have an additional ticket at the lower edge but ran out of prints :) By now all the paper is removed from middle ticket too, i didn't take a new photo (lazy girl, ha!).
Bicycle found a long time ago at Graphics Fairy, tickets were a freebie from Stampington.




Vanmiddag ga ik met een glas ijsthee in de tuin zitten, het is te benauwd om te bewegen (lui mens :) 
This afternoon will be spend in the backyard, lounging while sipping iced tea, it's too warm and humid to move (lazy girl :)

Collageteksten onder de verf. Ik heb maar twee kleuren gebruikt, phtalo green (blue shade) en titan buff. De digitale foto wil, zoals gewoonlijk, het groen niet goed weergeven. Waar ligt dat toch aan?
Nu bedenken hoe ik verder wil...


Collaged text underneath the paint. I only used two colors, phtalo green (blue shade) and titan buff. As usual the green doesn't show on the digital photo. Why's that always the case?
Now to decide how to move on...

er waren betere weken en toch:

• verfvingers
• drie vleermuizen rondjes vliegend boven m'n hoofd
• de grill-pan onder uit de kast opgegraven
• zoute chips gegeten

fijne zondag gewenst!

there were beter weeks and still:

• painty fingers
• 3 bats flying around over my head
• digged up the grill-pan
• eat salted chips (or crisps?)

patronen makenmaking patterns

Op de foto een deel van mijn voorraad 'gereedschap' om patronen in verf te maken. Zoals je ziet is alles in huis bruikbaar... sinaasappelnetjes, sponzen, bubbeltjesplastic, kurken, gaas, bodemplaten. Allemaal voor het maken van stijfselmarmers en allerlei achtergronden met acrylverf. Eens samen op de foto gezet voor een van de lessen die ik online volg bij Julie Prichard en Chris Cozen.


On this photo you see part of my pattern making 'tool' collection. As you can see everything in house is usable... netting, sponges, bubble wrapping, whine bottle corks, mesh, tube trays. All for making patterns in pasted papers and all kinds of acrylic paint backgrounds. Rounded up for one of Julie Prichard's and Chris Cozen's online workshops.

Twee tips om een beetje koel te blijven op een hete zomerse zondag

hou het hoofd koel tip 1:

Een mooie waaier is zo gevouwen van een scrapbookvel en als je er na het vouwen een kwart afsnijdt heb je gelijk de basis voor een boekje als dit: klik

Enne.. langzaam wapperen, anders krijg het daar weer warm van :)

hou het hoofd koel tip 2:

IJsthee maak ik altijd in de koelkast, ik hou niet van de zoete ijsthee die je kunt kopen en koude thee van gekookt water is me te bitter... 

M'n 'recept':

Koud water in een kan, theezakjes erbij (ik neem 1 groot zakje gewone thee en een aantal een-kops zakjes citroenthee van Lipton), nachtje in de koelkast laten trekken (of minstens een paar uur) en klaar om uit te schenken. Een paar blaadjes citroenmelisse staan leuk en een schijfje ciroen/limoen er in is ook niet te versmaden. Lekker verkoelend en niet zoet of bitter!

Je kunt natuurlijk naar smaak wat suiker in de kan doen, dat lost wel op als de thee trekt.

and... be sure to fan slowly or you will be warm from the exercise :)

My iced tea is brewn in the fridge, i don't like the sweetened iced teas you can buy and cooled tea from boiled water is to bitter for my taste...

My 'recipe':

Cold water in a jar, add teabags (I use one large 'ordinary' teabag and several one-cup lemon tea bags from Lipton), put in the fridge for a night (or at least a few hours) and your ready to pour. A few leaves of lemon balm (melissa officinalis) look fun and a slice lemon or lime tastes good too. Refreshing and not sweet or bitter!

Of course you can add some sugar to taste in the jar, it will dissolve while 'brewing' in the fridge.

Toen de waaier klaar was zag ik dat er deze leuke tekst op staat: 'love&laughter', gaaf!

The fan has this nice text on it 'love&laughter', I only noticed that when it was finished, how cool is that!

het was een hele warme week...

• ijsthee drinken
• fladderende vlinders
• ontdekken dat we op vakantie een zeldzame vlinder zagen
• de wekker om 6.15u viel toch ook wel mee

it was a very hot week...

• fluttering butterflies
• noticing we spotted a rare butterfly while on vacation
• the alarm at 6.15am wasn't that hard

Een poos terug maakte ik een paar zigzagboekjes in verschillende uitvoeringen. Deze week naaide ik er een en maakte foto's. Het boekje was in 5 minuten klaar, de foto's op een rijtje zette duurde 3 avonden...
A while ago I made a few zigzag book in various looks. This week I sew one and made photos. The book was finished in 5 minutes, the editing of the photos took me three nights...

Bloemen voor een volwassen verjaardagsmeisje :)

Flowers for a grown-up birthday girl :)

Cakepapiertjes met zulke leuke kleuren laat je natuurlijk niet in de winkel liggen. Platgeduwd lijken ze wel een beetje op bloemen en dan vooral als er een leuk motiefje op gestempeld is.
Such fun colored cupcake liners have to come home with me when spotted. Flattened these liners look a bit like flowers, especially with a nice design stamped on them.

De binnenkant is wit, goed om allerlei kleuren te stempelen. De steeltjes heb ik ook uit zo'n rondje geknipt, net als de blaadjes.
The inside is white, good for stamping colors. The stems are cut from a liner as are the leafs.
